Case story one

Aubyn worked with the Learning and Development Department of a bank for over two years to help develop their core competence in learning and development and more effectively meet the emerging needs of their internal business clients. We started by exploring the Departments’ philosophy and approach to learning and worked with the senior team to agree guiding principles of practice. We created a knowledge base of all the different approaches to leadership and management development currently in use and carried out research into the latest theories and models of learning. We ran a two day pilot course for the senior team on different learning and development approaches and models, and introduced the Integral Perspective and Spiral Dynamics as meta-models for diagnosing situational needs. We then rolled out the course on learning and development approaches for the whole department, involving 15 workshops across the UK. The objective was to strengthen the Department’s core competence in learning and development, as well as to help each individual identify their professional development needs and learn practical skills for diagnosing client needs more effectively so as to provide the most appropriate solutions.
